Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran petani dalam budidaya merica (Piper nigrum) sebagai sumber pendapatan utama di Desa Mahalona, Kecamatan Towuti, Kabupaten Luwu Timur. Merica merupakan salah satu komoditas unggulan yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi dan berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat desa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi lapangan, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa petani memiliki peran strategis dalam seluruh tahapan budidaya merica, mulai dari persiapan lahan, penanaman, pemeliharaan, hingga panen dan pemasaran. Selain itu, budidaya merica telah menjadi sumber pendapatan utama bagi sebagian besar keluarga petani di desa tersebut. Namun, masih terdapat tantangan yang dihadapi petani, seperti keterbatasan akses terhadap teknologi, modal, dan pasar. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan dukungan dari pemerintah dan pihak terkait untuk meningkatkan kapasitas petani dan memperkuat rantai nilai komoditas merica. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi masukan dalam perumusan kebijakan pembangunan pertanian berbasis komoditas unggulan lokal.
