Tanaman padi merupakan penghasil beras yang permintaannya terus meningkat tiap tahun seiring dengan bertambahnya jumlah penduduk. Namun produksi padi terus saja mengalami penurunan akibat kekurangan nutrisi, serangan hama dan penyakit, dan teknik budidaya yang kurang tepat. Terjadinya perubahan iklim turut memperparah tingkat serangan hama dan penyakit pada tanaman padi. Kekurangan nutrisi juga dapat memicu kerentanan tanaman terhadap serangan OPT sehingga perlu dilakukan upaya perbaikan yang mampu menekan serangan hama dan penyakit, serta mampu memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi tanaman. PGPR merupakan bakteri yang diisolasi pada area perakaran yang dianggap mampu untuk menekan serangan hama dan penyakit serta mampu memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi pada tanaman akibat adanya kandungan berbagai mikroorganisme menguntungkan yang dapat bertindak sebagai pengendali hama, pengendali mikroba penyebab penyakit serta memiliki mikroorganisme yang mampu mensuplai nutrisi untuk tanaman budidaya. Sehingga aplikasi PGPR dapat menjadi salah satu solusi pengamanan dan peningkatan produksi pada tanaman padi yang murah dan ramah lingkungan khususnya pada kondisi perubahan iklim seperti yang dirasakan sekarang ini. Kegiatan sosialisasi dan training pembuatan PGPR ini dilaksanakan di Desa Bassiang Kecamatan Ponrang Selatan Kabupaten Luwu. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan selama 2 hari yaitu pada tanggal 23 – 24 Agustus 2021. Kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi sosialisasi peran PGPR bagi tanaman serta pelatihan pembuatan PGPR kepada kelompok tani yang ada di Desa Bassiang. Desa Bassiang dipilih menjadi wilayah sosialisasi karena merupakan salah satu wilayah yang memiliki areal pertanaman padi terluas di Kabupaten Luwu. Hasil dari kegiatan ini diharapkan mampu meningkatkan wawasan petani terkait pertanian ramah lingkungan serta mampu membuat PGPR dan mengaplikasikan pada lahan sawah masing-masing agar produksi tanaman padi dapat tetap terjaga bahkan ditingkatkan.
